Three remixes for orchestra based on music by Skrillex, Daft Punk, Aphex Twin etc.
In the beginning of the 20th century dance music was revolutionized by composers like Stravinsky and Debussy. Over the past twenty years, Electronic Dance Music (EDM) has influenced today´s music in the same radical way. Hundred years after The Rite of Spring, Hans Ek has created Dance Music Symphony as a tribute to one of the most important musical genres in our time.
Dance Music Symphony is orchestral remixes of EDM-songs by artists like Skrillex, Daft Punk, Aphex Twin, Avicii and Swedish House Mafia.

Hans Ek has created his own distinctive place on the international music scene. Without fear of crossing boarders and styles, he breaks traditional patterns and walks his own ways; always with the aim of bringing the listener into an unknown, exciting – and often magnificent – musical landscape.
For more than twenty-five years, Hans Ek has created his personal sounds and timbres in the cross section between classical music, jazz, pop and folk music. With the ability to unite expressions from classical music with modern aesthetics, often draped in electronic audio tapes, he succeeds in creating some kind of atmospheric music that is felt relevant in our present time. Hans Ek’s strongly independent position in today’s music life has led to exciting collaborations and guest performances with orchestras and concert halls in Sweden and the Nordic region as well as the rest of Europe. The Danish Efterklang, British These New Puritans and the film musician Michael Nyman are just a few examples. Hans Ek has also been musical director of many productions of Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson’s musicals.
A current collaboration that stands out is the acclaimed E.S.T. Symphony. Hans Ek arranges and conducts Esbjörn Svensson Trio’s music – both for recording and performance – for an ensemble consisting of jazz musicians and a classical symphony orchestra. With the chamber ensemble Modern Fantazias he has moved closer to personal favorites like Brian Eno and Kraftwerk. Recently, Hans Ek interpreted David Bowie’s “Berlin Trinity” in Gothenburg Concert Hall and the Berwald Hall in Stockholm.
Ongoing projects are typical examples of how Hans Ek is working with respect to crossing borders: Among them are newly composed pieces to the clarinettist Martin Fröst, an album with the Danish DJ collective The Black School and arrangements of songs of Björk to the soprano Renée Fleming. All with the ambition to create a contemporary Swedish and international repertoire that will get it´s natural position in the orchestra tradition.
